Stain Treatment

Water-based Stains

Alcoholic beverages, wine, soda, gravy, ice cream, milk, mud, chocolate, coffee, mustard, ketchup, and latex paint

1. Try to absorb as much of the stain by blotting with an absorbent towel. Be sure not to spread the stain

2. Make a solution of 32 oz. water with 1/4 tsp. of dishwashing detergent

3. Blot on the solution with a sponge using a tapping motion and dry with an absorbent towel. Repeat until stain is removed


Organic-based Stains

Fecal matter, urine, blood

1. Remove any solid waste

2. Follow the procedure to clean water-based stains (see above). Use cold water for blood.

3. Treat with a natural enzymatic cleaner like Earthworm Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner


Oil-based Stains

Oil, grease, make-up, greasy foods

1. Remove any solid waste

2. Try to absorb as much of the stain by blotting with an absorbent towel

3. Sprinkle stain with baking soda to absorb the oil and leave for one hour

4. Vacuum baking soda from stain (use hand tool with a tapping motion)

5. Follow with steps 2 and 3 for organic-based stains (shown above)

NOTE: Olefin (polypropylene or polyethylene) and polyester carpet fibers will absorb oil. On those carpets, substitute step 5 with the following: Blot with rubbing alcohol on an absorbent towel.
