Maintaining Your Carpets
Vacuuming your carpets on a routine basis will remove 85% of the soil collected by the carpet. All carpets should be vacuumed on a weekly basis. Carpets exposed to high traffic should be vacuumed daily.
In addition to vacuuming, carpets should undergo professional carpet cleaning every 6, or 12 months; depending on the amount of traffic and soiling. Always use a knowledgeable carpet cleaner and a low moisture encapsulation cleaning method (like Xplica! Studio). Never allow a carpet cleaner to clean your silk or plant based carpets with a wet cleaning system.
When having your carpets professionally cleaned, seek a cleaning method that will limit the amount of dry time. The longer the carpet takes to dry, the more time bacteria have to grow in the wet environment. Often a carpet will look clean when wet but dirty when dry. This is due to wicking. In the same way that the wick of a lamp pulls up kerosene, your wet carpet fibers (which, in essence, are wicks) will pull up dirt as they dry.
Successful treatment and removal of a carpet stain will depend on the type of stain. See the list of stain removal methods on the next page for more information.
